Presentation

The Nutrition Course at the Federal University of Maranhão began its activities in 2004, and is based on ethical principles and reflection on the economic, political, social and cultural reality of the state of Maranhão. It aims to provide training aimed at graduates with a generalist, humanist and critical profile, training the student in theoretical, political and ethical aspects, so that they can perform the functions of professional practice, in the areas of knowledge necessary for the prevention and comprehensive care of diseases related to food and nutrition for individuals and populations, based on health promotion and the human right to adequate food, considering new emerging practices and local and regional characteristics. The pedagogical conception will be centered on the precepts of freedom and ideals of human solidarity, contemplated in the Law of Guidelines and Bases of National Education, seeking the integral and adequate training of the student, as provided for in the Curricular Guidelines for the Nutrition Course.
