RESUMO: Demand-side management solutions are tasked with rewarding flexible customers to achieve utility goals. However, under price-based demand response programs, uncoordinated load shifting may lead to rebound peaks, potentially benefiting prosumers at the expense of the energy service provider (ESP). This study addresses the aforementioned issue from the perspectives of the ESP (utility company) and its customers in two steps: first a distributed multi-source energy management problem is solved for all customers; then a system-wide demand profile optimization problem is solved for the ESP. A multi-objective optimization model is formulated to minimize consumption costs and schedule discomfort, considering consumer or prosumer preferences. Then, we describe an approach to combine Pareto-optimal solutions from all customers that minimizes their aggregate demand profile's peak-to-average ratio (PAR). Simulation results comparing several selection methods show that even simple strategies can yield better system-wide PAR results than only considering customer's best solution for both cost and discomfort objectives. The proposed approach successfully improves the ESP system-wide demand profile while minimizing customer expenses and schedule discomfort.
