TÍTULO: “Gamma-ray observations of Sagittarius A* and other massive black holes”
PALESTRANTE: Rodrigo Nemmen (Universidade de São Paulo)
RESUMO: The Fermi telescope has been observing the sky in gamma-rays over the last decade. One particularly important target has been the nearest supermassive black hole: Sagittarius A* (Sgr A*), located at the center of the Milky Way. Sgr A* is a great laboratory to investigate the physical processes occurring in the vicinity of event horizons. After reporting on some recent scientific highlights of the Fermi mission, I will present an ongoing analysis by my group of ~10 years of Fermi Large Area Telescope observations (100 MeV - 300 GeV) of the point source likely associated with Sgr A*. I will also present Fermi LAT observations of a complete sample of nearby, low-luminosity active galactic nuclei. These observations are uniquely helping us to understand high-energy processes in nearby galactic nuclei.
